Pilsen has a "new" Faculty of Arts

Pilsen Faculty of Humanities since 2005, has changed its name to the Faculty of Arts University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. He wants to sign the Central European tradition of philosophical faculties, which are associated with an elite Humanities.

Originally stemmed from the Faculty of Humanities, Law Center faculty in 1999. The aim was to educate students in fields that were hitherto neglected in Western Bohemia. It began with the bachelor's degree, was among the first Humanities, Social and Cultural Anthropology and Foreign Languages ​​for commercial practice, was gradually extended Archaeology, Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies.

In recent years, the faculty focus on development of master's degree courses, which now include social and cultural anthropology, communications theory and philosophy, archeology, cultural anthropology of the Near East, Politics and Anthropology of past populations. The current doctoral programs are the Theory and History of Science and Technology and Ethnology.

New from this academic year is a separate Department of Middle East Studies, which is to educate professionals on the historical, cultural and linguistic issues in the Middle East from antiquity to the present. For the necessary language skills, students choose one of the Middle Eastern languages ​​- Arabic Department offers, new ivrit Hebrew, the language of ancient Mesopotamia Akkadian, Turkish, Sumerian, Hittite, Ugaritic and Aramaic.
