Professor Pavel Prosek geogafie Department of Brno Faculty of Science boss bold project – the construction of Czech polar station. Třiašedesátiletý professor who works at the Masaryk University, wants to build on its experience from 80 polárnických and 90 years.

In March this year he spent in Argentina and Antarctica for three weeks, together with his colleagues found a suitable habitat. But the weather did not allow a group of scientists to get to the island, but was successful expedition: finally chosen location, where it begins this fall to build Czech polar base. As said Pavel Prosek, it will be about six miles from the initially planned Brandy Creek Bay on the coast of James Ross Island.

Czech base will be designed for fifteen people. It is envisaged that it will work at least forty years. Research will take place during the Antarctic summer, when temperatures on the island fluctuates around zero. Will examine in particular the internal structure of Antarctic oases, ie geographical processes, makroklima, local climate and microclimate, species diversity and the like. The cost of building stations will peak around fifty million. Its annual operations will cost approximately a quarter million.
