Today is World Press Freedom day. It declared the UN General Assembly in 1993 as a reminder third May 1991, when the Declaration was adopted Windhoekská for independent, free and pluralistic media in Africa and around the world.

Windhoekská Declaration notes that a free press is an essential underpinning of a democratic society and human effort just for her. World Press Freedom Day is a means to exert pressure on governments that deny their citizens the right to free dissemination of information, is also a means to the liberation of imprisoned and otherwise persecuted journalists and commemorates those who died or were killed directly in the performance of its public information mission .

As Press Freedom Day is 3 May commemorated with the support of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) and the Committee on Freedom of the press in the world (WPFC) and other organizations.
