Already half of public universities in the Czech Republic joined the new project Plagiarism in the final works of students, whose goal is to significantly reduce cheating.

Masaryk University has prepared a project that the system for detecting similarities in the CR introduced first in 2006 in his own theses archive. Submit a joint project of high schools within the centralized development projects of the Ministry of Education.

Participation in the project has adopted the Czech Agricultural University in Prague, University of South Bohemia in the Czech Budejovice, University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Usti nad Labem, Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Silesian University in Opava, Janacek Academy of Performing Arts, College of Applied Arts in Prague Technical University of Economics and Czech Budejovice and other universities. To date, involvement in the project a total of 13 universities, their number may not be final.

"The basis is to create a national archive of university theses in electronic form and function to introduce him to search for similar files. Delegated representatives of the participating universities will be able to find similar documents themselves and to determine the search criteria, "said Vice-Rector of Masaryk University Ivan Black. The access rights to the system, how to insert and extent of publication theses, each of the interested universities will decide on its own.

The system also includes automatic anti-virus protection of files and thematic full-text search. Maximum attention is devoted to archiving and backup. The whole system will be available in Czech and English. Search plagiarism will be available initially for Czech, Slovak and English texts. Thanks to the detailed records of the collaborating universities also receive comprehensive information about individual works. Further details about the project on http://www.theses.cz/.

The aim of the project is not only plagiarism checking the work already resigned and the subsequent prosecution, but especially prevention. „Easy discovery that the system allows students advance deterrent to fraud itself,“ says Black. The advantage of Multi-University project is to increase the probability of detection of plagiarism in the use of already functioning and tested system.

The system is constantly improved. The latest addition is a feature called Global search plagiarism. Previous versions offered to all users the ability to check whether the selected specific documents exist in a system similar. The new feature allows those responsible to search a list of all documents matching the search criteria (the final work, or study materials at one school or the entire university, etc.) and individual documents that can detect whether or not the plagiarism, if the responsible person so assessed.
