Golden times for Czech students in Austria is slowly ending. Since the summer semester of 2004 will have had to pay for tuition as well as their Austrian classmates. Under the proposal, drawn up by the Austrian Ministry of Education, charging studies should enter into force on 1 March 2004 and the level of fees should amount to 363.36 euros (approximately CZK 12,000) per semester.
Ministry responds to this impending accession of the CR to the European Union – 1 May next year, charges since March on the fact that most of the semester – examination period – graduate students have as citizens of the Union. So far, studies were due to the existence of bilateral agreements between states for the citizens of candidate countries free of charge, so they were favored as compared to the actual Austrian students, or students from other EU countries. Accession to the EU, with Czech students of this advantage will come.
