Austrian art student protests continue

Once a student of the Vienna University for Applied Arts (Universität für Angewandte Kunst) last week draped forty sites in the city center, took place at night from Sunday to Monday a new protest.

Once a student of the Vienna University for Applied Arts (Universität für Angewandte Kunst) last week draped forty sites in the city center, took place at night from Sunday to Monday a new protest.

The windows of the University towards the transport hub Wien Mitte lit up and formed the words „SOS“. According to the fraternity of the University as the first call for help in the history of educational institutions. Educators and students concerned about the continued operation of the University to maintain the standard of education for the next year nearly 2 missing, 5 million Euros.

University for Applied Arts in the framework of the Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) was privatized and now it has been reduced state subsidies. In the present study are around a thousand students from all over Europe and the instruction is also based on international cooperation. Students of the Austrian Government has issued an open letter in which it was seeking renewal of funding and tighter management of culture and art.

The last protest calling „Mayday“ was designed primarily Austrian companies to realize the alarming situation in higher education – especially at art schools.
