Curatorial craft does not belong just to those nejmasovějším, despite or precisely because, it is especially among the „cultural“ highly respected by the public. But, if anyone thought that this profession can successfully perform almost everyone would then probably wrong. Besides, it also confirms a student, writer and curator in one person, Catherine Tuckova with which you now an interview.
** KATERINA ** Tučková graduated dvouobor Czech language and literature and art history at the Philosophical Faculty of Masaryk University. Now a doctoral student at Charles University cycle, namely the Institute for the History of Art, which specializes in Czech art of the late 20th century. Occasionally lectures at high schools and, moreover, still wanted by paid gymnastics, swimming and running, studying English, reading and, in his words, more or less successfully, the aquarium trade.

Difficult it was for me as for everyone else. I was then taken again on the basis of written and oral examinations branch. Both fields were also my hobby, so I was ready, which is shown in the written part. At the oral stage fright, of course, I zpatlala what it was.
I did not have much experience, just by participating in language and literary competitions, in the case of pure art, I was informed newcomer.
By the time I reported to the university, I take the output and employment possibilities of art historians did not know much. Essential for me was the fascination with the subject field. When time began to unravel, and opportunities for work experience in a gallery where I worked between the second and fifth year, I just decided what direction I want to give. First, I conducted a small gallery ARSkontakt, conceptually focused on young artists, now I have been rather more curatorial projects with overlapping abroad.
I think it is very difficult to stay in the field of art history or in the field of contemporary live arts. Curatorial positions in galleries is not much, private galleries do not need experts, but rather a powerful force, and field theory can not feed nor the percentage of graduates. Who but the conviction must do, so you can find some crack … Even at a price that will have some time mimooborový. This is normal.
The Department of Art History is not required to teach. Which I regret because I did not like. I enjoy both guided tours of exhibitions for the public or college students, and lectures for school students. The younger ones, and industry is ambivalent, of course, harder to take, but even I have no problem with it – it's just the structure and dynamics of lectures, in which the art with a rich history and attractive visuals actually very entertaining. And what it is like to stand on the opposite side? Actually smoothly continuing, I would say, except that as a student, I appreciated the mild and benevolent teachers, and yet I became a strict and uncompromising occasional lecturer.
The curator can also become one so that it says. Sometimes that's enough. Or so that it closely monitors art scene, it is able to select and combine the most important trends to create their program and show the whole concept and then implement. Each theorist can be good, but the fact is that without superior organizational skills the curator can not do. Its task is also, if not working directly for an institution to provide adequate exhibition space and eventually to finance the whole project.
Even during his studies at Masaryk University, I decided to study literature and art, and one with no tendency to support practical work and the other to perform with artistic ambitions. It is interesting that even what once seemed to be in the realm of dreams can be realized, if you let it in mind and is dedicated to this day. So I became, say, exaggeration, writing kurátorující curator or writer, and both these activities are intertwined with my life so much that I'm not even a closer or more distant. Sometimes even whole networks, such as during the exhibition artists as well as writers' word and image ", which I realized in collaboration with Radim Grinders.
Mastering it can be, I created a working system in which the organization I work daily in the morning things that just burns or doutnají, and in the afternoon or at the end of the week I turn off the phone and writing. When finishing a book, it is difficult, these are just moments when you say that the organizational and creative works can not reconcile, and that one day I'll have to choose. On the other hand – each of these activities brings me a different kind of satisfaction, so I hope that the current will keep the bar … But who knows.
Now finishing a book titled „Expulsion Schnirch Gerty,“ which refers to the postwar expulsion of Germans in Brno. It should come out in the autumn publishing Guest. And while preparing the exhibition „Transfer“ in the Czech National Building in New York, 6 Confrontation with ARSkontakt year award for young artists prices up to 26 years, an exhibition of „distortion“ in the boiler room and gallery shows artists from Dresden and Munich, Prague and Prague back there … And then the next event on the horizon for 2010 and 2011.
