The Special Field: Development Studies

It took maybe considerably long time for the developed countries recognize the seriousness of the problems that plagued the so-called Third World. But we should not look back at what should be. More important is how the crisis of the less developed countries treated today. An important step in this regard is undoubtedly the establishment of training courses focusing on development studies. While recently we have at our universities looked around only with difficulty can now be devoted to the fields of development assistance to the so-called third world now study the three of them.

What is Development Studies

It is a discipline dealing with all sorts of possibilities and means of development cooperation. Such cooperation should not only lead to short-term improvement of the country or region (which are more humanitarian aid), but rather to their long-term consolidation. Therefore generally focuses on areas such as political democratization, health, agriculture, industry, business, education, communication and science, namely those which constitute a necessary basis for good and independent functioning of the state or region. Contents === === study Fields associated with various aspects of development cooperation are intended for all who are interested in the issue of the Third World, especially so on the global economy and development, politics (regional and global), international law, economics, intercultural communication, etc., all in the context of being developing countries. The Czech Agricultural University (CAU), the articles are more closely linked with the possibilities of animal and crop production in developing countries (mainly the tropics and subtropics), the practical application of agricultural technologies and projects, etc.

Subjects === === The basis of all disciplines focused on development cooperation are subjects of science and geography (physical geography, socio-economic geography, Geoinformatics, regional studies with a focus on developing regions, etc.). The social sciences, the students often meet with those that focus on global and regional politics, area studies in particular developing countries, international law, cultural studies and ethnography. However, no missing items, with an economic focus, or those engaged in project management and producing studies on the subject. The main emphasis is on performance issues relating to poverty, socio-economic development, international finance and trade, international development organizations, sociology, counseling, marketing and applied research itself. The CUA Prague articles are more focused on animal and plant agriculture, agricultural technology, climatology, water management, rural development and others. An integral part of the study at any of the following schools is a foreign language, usually English, and possibly even one more.

Graduate Profile === === Graduates can be applied in a wide range of professional disciplines. These include work in foreign trade, specializing in developing regions (mainly focusing on economic development studies), regional policy and development in public administration and even private organizations, profit and non-profit nature (such as the UN specialized agencies network , OECD, etc.), media, etc. Graduates will also be able to handle analytical and synthetic study on development issues, working in the „field“, ie specific conditions of developing regions, and contribute to real development aid and the implementation of individual projects .

CUA Alumni, depending on the degree program will receive expertise in technology-oriented breeding, nutrition, production and processing of animal and plant products and the ability to apply them in practice. They can therefore be applied as experts in farm and like-minded government agencies in developing countries, as well as expert advisors and implementers of agricultural development projects, such as counselors and staff in both Czech and foreign government institutions, international organizations (EU, WBG, FAO, UNDP ad.) scientific institutions, private companies focusing on import and export, etc.
