Briefly about metallurgy === === Primordial knowledge in metallurgy (including metallurgy) began the first man to use it in the Bronze Age, ie around in 3rd millennium BC However, sometimes the first hand-machined metal considered the gold that was known even earlier. The major interests in metallurgy in its current form is then, very simply, processing and manufacturing iron, steel and nonferrous metals, and the gradual development and innovation to the technology used.

Where to study metallurgy === === Metallurgy can not study it directly to the dedicated faculty in Ostrava, but also for example in the engineering faculties in Pilsen, Liberec. From a chemical point of view, it can then be addressed at the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology.

=== About the studio

In the first semester of undergraduate study cycle, the content is common to all students of the faculty. Their division of the second semester will be based not only manifested their interest in the specialty, but also respects the capacity of individual fields of study options. Therefore, take the form of division of the selection process. The actual study focuses not only on a thorough mastery of theoretical but also practical training for professionals and the possibility of immediate application. Faculty, however, offers the possibility of master's studies. Among the subjects are the theoretical foundation courses in mathematics, physics or chemistry. The cross-subject student encounters such as the economy and the general technical subjects necessary to the doctrine of the material, computers, electrical and electronics, theory of technological processes, automation, etc. Other items are aimed, inter alia, on the theory and technology of production and processing of iron and steel and non-ferrous metals, foundry technology, theory and technology shaping and manipulation of materials, thermal technology and the environment.

Admission tests === === Entrance exams are not held, students are taking with regard to academic achievement from high school, especially the profile items.

Depending on the field is applied graduates in companies and public enterprises operating in the technology of production, processing and casting of steel, then the foundry or in companies dealing with various forms of technology and forming and editing materials. Field of Thermal Technology and Environment is preparing its students for work in the business of heating technology and processes (including, for example the use of thermal energy), combustion processes, building materials etc.. Art foundry provides the prerequisites for students to work in the humanities, arts, and in technical fields. Redeem may thus for example in dealing with foundries casting art castings for medium or technical positions in industrial foundries character.

Mechanical Engineering program, students are educated so that they can successfully continue their follow-up study of two-year master cycle (as opposed to the Engineering, which is focused „professional“ and has been previously well-defined field of study). The content of the first year Mechanical Engineering degree is identical to the Mechanical Engineering program, but from the second year already has his graduate students of Mechanical Engineering and other academic subjects, which is just to prepare for subsequent study in master's degree.
