Private versus public high schools: the eternal struggle?

Maybe you are just the ones who decide this year for the best college. In this case, you have probably already met with the question of whether you opt for public or private school. In this article we have tried to look unenviable dilemma from different sides, and we asked the opinion of the students. Our list is not exhaustive obviously, but you could offer interesting topics for consideration.

** Advertising, where you look ** What is the main difference between public and private high school? Many of you can tell even the way ** As schools present themselves **. Whether we look at the posters in city traffic, advertising in the press or how to handle Web sites, it is usually evident that private schools ** advertising ** need much more than public. The reason is clear: to operate on a commercial basis, have a great competition and they really depend on each student who entered into their courses. The self-representation to private schools often provide enough matter: young and beautiful student happily laugh at cílevědomých and modified boys. Everyone knows what they want: to study this particular school. What should you want? Surely to be in their company! Note that a good mood, bright colors and impressive words of success figure in commercials more often than the emphasis on education alone. Classic picture book with uměřeného studentíka underarm we automatically connects more with decent public school alma mater. „True, our school may seem a bit boring“, we read from the style of advertising, public universities, „but we solvent, traditional and trustworthy.“ Again, the trend is changing, of course, examples can be aggressive style of CTU, which celebrates success. The fundamental differences in the overall image of schools ** ** are still visible.

** For and Against? ** Let's but after this rather theoretical introduction to look at specific advantages and disadvantages of different types of schools. Differences which we will mention here should not be seen as universally valid and clearly defined, rather will indicate the direction in which they can take your thoughts. The most commonly mentioned is the difference between the schools page ** ** Financial Studies. While public universities are still subsidized by the state (which is not far from the rule around the world) and offer scholarships ** ** option for commuters, socially disadvantaged or gifted students above average, tuition at a private high school, you will need in the vast majority of self ** pay **. And it's not usually for smaller amounts: the cost of one semester may, at some lucrative fields to climb up to the order of tens of thousands. Sasha, who is three years after graduation decided to study in college, says: „I think I will go to public school and I liked a lot, even when the public will be able to financially afford. Today it is not easy money, and unfortunately I do not have parents, business, or a millionaire. "Height tuition fees is the reason why most students first submit an application to public schools and only in the second round of entrance examinations tests those private. "The price is so important aspect that many of the private high school do not even consider,“ says Sasha. Aneta Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, agreed: „The money saved parents consider it a great advantage over the private school.“ Let us not just unjust but: the current students of private universities warn that pay a fee study does not automatically like a cakewalk. They must earn their titles often hard work. Teresa, who had just received a bachelor's degree from the University of Karlovy Vary, conferring „Everyone thinks that if it is a private school, is paid to the person you pay as tests. Not so, not on my school. His title I vydřela. A lot of nerves, fear and worry, but it was worth it. "Moreover, the school, which thrives thanks to contributions, can provide students with better equipment of classrooms, more attractive activities and disciplines, and some schools even part of the fees to his students“ returns „in the form of paid and voluntary work experience directly in the field of study. With Veronica and agrees that studies Faculty of Education University of West Bohemia in Pilsen: "Private schools are definitely better equipment and I think they quickly adapt to market a number of attractive areas.“ The most commonly mentioned is the difference between the schools page ** ** Financial Studies. We also touched on questions of prestige and future ** use **. Both types of schools, although legally get ** ** the same title, but it can happen that you encounter in the future, an employer who will in deciding to use their own scales: that precisely this mentioned credibility and status of traditional school. General reputation of private schools is often poor, as confirmed by Veronica: „I think that private colleges are not fully accepted everywhere warmly. It looks to me a bit so that there is a sort of meet and closed elite that is determined to came straight to the title. But it's not just sight, never with anyone from the private universities did not speak, so I can not judge. "It is with preconceptions that students of private schools meet often enough. "Unfortunately, I met with a negative attitude, and especially from those who study public school and private contempt. They think that we have all the money and do not try at all. Not so. "Opposes Teresa. For a negative stereotype can be the idea that quality and ** ** teacher education occurs only at public universities. This blunder is trying to refute Michael from the Metropolitan University, ops. Prague: "It may be surprising for someone that just me has selected a private school in their ranks of speakers indeed capacity in the industry, and who teach at public universities, IU. Charles University. " Argument against time-tested and trusted public schools (which is also the year's affairs also debatable), we can also build questions ** usefulness in terms of timeliness of information ** and adapt to current social situation. Graduates of private universities can be the end of undergraduate studies much better prepared for "real life“ in their field than their colleagues with a master's degree in public universities, which is flooded often impractical theories. Veronika partly confirms this: „I know that there is a private high school with a focus on pedagogy and there are apparently those of modern teaching methods.“ It is up to you whether you prefer a more traditional weight training, compared with more chances to apply the predatory labor market. Nor does it for you not at the moment but play a crucial role. „They do not apply after school, but on the field that I would be interested and that I was able to complete his studies college,“ says Sasha. For students who are accustomed to more „family-type“ high school can be a shock that public schools often become a mere name or number in the catalog, with their teachers after years of study is often not enough to know personally and are evaluated completely anonymously . This approach obviously has its advantages: it works quickly, efficiently and above all fair. Students of private schools on the contrary, was praised ** ** personal approach with which to meet their high school. Martin from Newton College in Brno, he sums up his experience succinctly: „The benefits of a private school: Individual approach. In the vast majority are taught by experts. Cons: Lower demand and prestige. "Private schools fight for every“ soul „and it may be reflected in greater willingness to deal with any unusual situation and in such terms by which it must submit an application. "There is no obstacle to solve the problem on site, if any occurs, I feel that I did not know anything because I did not provide one. I am perfectly informed and I lost feeling hundredth sheep in the herd, "says Michael, is a private high school“ deserted „from the public. Teresa is also confirmed: "Teachers are really devoted to us and for them too much. The advantage was the small community of people, students and teachers. We knew everyone. That I think is different than a public school where many students themselves did not know. " There are also voices highlighting the complexity ** ** studies on various types of schools. Here, however, need to realize one essential point: who is able to objectively assess the real difference? Intensity at universities usually varies between schools, whether public or private, and even between one university faculties. Aneta agrees. "At the moment I am studying at the second public high school and as differences in organization and leadership, and in difficulty, are incomparable“. If you are considering for example by combining study with work, rather ask directly at the source and not rely on general assumptions. Likewise, you can count on what says Martin: „Studying is so difficult, as it does man.“ What other questions can be taken into account in decision making? They can be for example ** ** options when studying a particular type of school. It allows the college to travel in the study, and what conditions must be met for it? What is the level of language teaching, and how much time is devoted to her? What student activities at their school site mentions? You may also be interested in the likely number of students, the chances of acceptance or variety selection fields **. ** Here we do not often confuse the regal-sounding names of some fields and private schools prefer to see in detail what's behind them. Similarly, find out if at all possible to your chosen field of study at another type of school. „For example, a private school with a focus on anthropology and human genetics, you study, know,“ said Aneta. This is true but in reverse, which is confirmed by Michael's words: „My field, namely Anglophone studies at another school, not studying, is a relatively new field, for his mediation I owe a great lecturers.“

** What can I say? ** The purpose of this article would certainly not be to convince you that type of school is the only correct one. Each of us is unique and so requires an environment that suits him. Each of us has its own criteria by which decisions are made. The choice of future schools is certainly an important decision, during which it pays to consider all the pros and cons, on the other hand, we live in a time when changing fields and schools several times a study is not exceptional nor unusual. So what you should know? Definitely do not forget that all generalizations are dangerous ** ** and never fail to account fully for the truth. Please note that each school is very different from each other and in the end it does not matter so much on the case of public or private school. Large differences are seen even by different faculties and departments. In making your decision also certainly let advice from more experienced. Go to the open house, ask for whatever you're interested – and especially no fear of the final decision!
