Five questions for ... Ivan Pinkava

Ivan Pinkava (born 1961) is now one of the characters nevýraznějším Czech photographic scene. His fondness for him in the photo in the 80 years led to the FAMU, where he graduated in art photography. About his years of study he says: "It was a great experience in a very neskvělé time.

For most of his professional career, Ivan Pinkava acts as a freelance artist, even if, for example between 2005 and 2007 you are able to meet with him at the Prague Academy of Arts, where he led the studio photos. For much of his work is characterized by a special black and white, and many tuning their slightly gloomy tone. The key themes of his films, then most people tend to either capture as individuals with their own lives, or merely as physical objects. Recently, also devotes a lot of non-figurative picture, which is not directly related to the parallel part of his figurative works. Photos of Ivan Pinkava are represented in many domestic and international public collections.

** What high school did you study and why you chose for her then? ** Film and Television School Academy of Music, majoring in art photography. It was a simple choice, because if it was the only college in the Czech Republic focused on the photo. Secondary motivation was the fact that it was one of the few ways after college to be a freelancer.

** What do you put a college education from the perspective of your current profession? ** In terms of today's profession is of course much longer quite as remote as the technology shifted considerably. But the study itself enabled me to confront the difficult competitive environment that is highly critical and uncompromising, but also a creative and inspiring. It also extended the period of study with real life pragmatic issues and then allowed four years to find and completely independently and without liability to try everything possible. I consider it very important for every young person.

** If you had to choose again today, what you studied and where? ** Obviously then the inability to travel during school somewhere in abroad, never been nezacelitelný debt, which gave us perhaps one thing: He taught us the most of every crevice of the information, realizing that most of the opportunities that appear almost never to return, and so on. On the other hand, we have been exposed to strange uncritical perception of every track informational anything free, we caught somewhere because it was almost always more interesting than the end of the local morbid staleness. If I could decide to study now, in today's terms, I would have settled for the school of arts education with comprehensive photo and I would probably „střihnul“ as vedlejšák. However, if the photo at all. In fact, I do not believe that from a school you can bring an artist if that's somehow not advance your own nature. Visual arts teacher at the school for students in particular someone who can help him speed up the ripening process, to find its true potential, interest, and so on. Actually, I now think that the true interests of this sector is not necessarily the right photographic education is necessary. On the other, education, your potential to significantly expand as a photographer. You had a lot depends on what exactly you are interested in photography, because of course you can target many different directions. For some of the possible topics, such as a student in itself is sufficient clarity and hardworking, not really needed by me to spend studying the pictures for example six long years. Personally, I would be more interested to use some of this time for peeping into a totally different, distant world of education, which later helped me to better grasp the mind of his own work. Personally, I would now be interested in religion or anthropology.

** What do you think of when someone asks for your „student life“? ** Great friends, but mostly outside the radius of the school. The last romance, even when black was black and white is called white. When it was much easier to know who will never, though the person because of what i need to run the risk of losing their schools and so on. A great experience in a very neskvělé time.

** What would you say to or advise those who wish to report on the field that you have studied or are considering similar professional path? ** Have a clear idea of what school they want in terms of their future and that whether they can fill in this school. Whether they will be able to sustain just such a focus on the dreams of, and consider the case of the track „artists“ that really are willing to do to adapt their lives more than we now imagine. Really just a very small number of dreamers it does manage to succeed, while generally only those dreamers. But not all. Statistically, almost nobody more. Art school today in the Czech Republic annually churn out new graduates and new photo. It seems to me that in a meaningless number. For many of the future graduates in the field of photography will certainly not be easy to apply and will be probably difficult to find a fulfilling career.
