Minister of Education, Youth and Sports in July approved the allocation of grant project of the Regional Centre of advanced technologies and materials that will be implemented within the Faculty of Palacky University in Olomouc (UP). The project was approved under the Operational Programme Research and Development for a total subsidy of almost 545 million crowns, of which about 463 million CZK will be covered from EU funds and the remaining amount from the state budget.
The project aims to link research activities of the UP and business entities operating in the fields of nanotechnology, optical technologies, processes and analytical instrumentation and development of biologically active compounds. Will consist of six research groups focusing on environmental, medical and industrial applications (for example we can mention all the modern technologies such as clean water, using nanoparticles of iron, surface treatment with antibacterial silver nanoparticles or optical technology used to detect high-energy cosmic rays). The project will be developed and tested a new material with a high antitumor activity and magnetic materials applicable in medicine as contrast agents or drug carriers.
The grant project will be taken by some unique facilities such as transmission electron microscope with high resolution with the possibility to work at low temperatures, which enables the study size, morphology and structure of nanomaterials and biomacromolecules.
