The president appointed a new rector Nicholas Beka MU

New Rector of Masaryk University Mikuláš Bek was appointed to the Prague Castle, President Vaclav Klaus to function. Former Vice-Rector for Strategy and External Relations became the 33rd order Rector of the second largest Czech university.

In the function succeeds Rector Peter Fiala, who 31st August 2011 over a second term. New Rector has elected 26th April 2011 Academic Senate of Masaryk University, who chose five candidates.

The main priorities in its policy statement called Bek quality education and respect for freedom of research. It plans to push for strengthening the elements of academic self-governance and deepen the cooperation with universities and other research partners.

Sedmačtyřicetiletý Bek since 2004 Associate Professor at the Institute of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno. In his academic career he also worked at Charles University, Palacky University in Olomouc, and as a visiting lecturer at London University.
